Founded in 1982 by Maria and Roberto Santos, a husband-and-wife team who struggled to find comfortable shoes for Maria’s wide feet and Roberto’s plantar fasciitis. What started as a small specialty store in Portland, Oregon, focusing on hard-to-fit feet grew into a trusted brand that puts comfort first. The Santos family spent their first five years traveling to shoe factories, learning about foot anatomy, and talking to podiatrists to understand what really makes shoes comfortable.
In the 1990s, they expanded beyond specialty sizing to create shoes for anyone tired of choosing between comfort and appearance. Their breakthrough came in 1994 when they developed their first proprietary insole using memory foam technology originally created for NASA. The 2000s brought new cushioning technology and breathable materials, including partnerships with textile manufacturers to create moisture-wicking linings.
